Indian police say bomb-laden drones hit air base in Kashmir

Dilbagh Singh, the region’s police director-general, told the private news channel New Delhi Television that “drones with payload were used in both the blasts.” Singh called the attack an act of terrorism.

Two soldiers were lightly wounded in the explosions, according to a military officer who spoke on condition of anonymity in keeping with military regulations. India’s air force tweeted that the attack caused minor damage to a building on the base, located in the southern city of Jammu in the Indian-controlled portion of Kashmir, while the second blast hit an open area. It said no military equipment was damaged.

Singh’s family said he died late Friday of complications from COVID-19 in a hospital in the northern city of Chandigarh.

Singh had first tested positive for the coronavirus on May 20. His wife Nirmal Kaur, a former volleyball captain, had died of the virus just days earlier. She was 85.

गुजरात में कच्छ के कुंडरोडी मे 30 जून 1928 को जन्में कल्याणजी वीर जी शाह बचपन से ही संगीतकार बनने का सपना देखा करते थे हालांकि उन्होने किसी उस्ताद से संगीत की शिक्षा नही ली थी। अपने इसी सपने को पूरा करने के लिये वह मुंबई आ गये और संगीतकार हेमंत कुमार के सहायक के तौर पर काम करने लगे।

इंडोनेशिया में माउंट आगुंग ज्वालामुखी में विस्फोट के कारण निकले राख के चलते रिसॉर्ट द्वीप बाली स्थित अंतरराष्ट्रीय हवाईअड्डा को शुक्रवार को बंद कर दिया गया।
पिछले साल के अंत से खामोश माउंट अागुंग ज्वालामुखी फिर से सक्रिय हो गया है।
आपदा राहत एजेंसी ने एक वक्तव्य में कहा कि हवाईअड्डा शुक्रवार को स्थानीय समयानुसार शाम सात बजे तक बंद रहेगा। इसके कारण 38 अंतरराष्ट्रीय उड़ानें और 10 घरेलू उड़ानों सहित कुल 48 उड़ानें रद्द कर दी गयी हैं जिससे 8,334 यात्री प्रभावित होंगे। एजेंसी के प्रवक्ता सुतोपो पुर्वाे नुग्रोहो ने कहा कि ज्वालामुखी में विस्फोट के कारण हवा में 2,500 मीटर (8,200 फीट) राख का गुब्बारा (कॉलम) उठा और माउंट अागुंग के मुहाने पर लाल लौ दिखाई दे रही थी।
बाली के उत्तर पूर्व में स्थित माउंट अागुंग में पिछले साल के अंत से विभिन्न तीव्रताओं के साथ विस्फोट हुआ है और दिसंबर में भी हवाईअड्डे को एक अवधि के लिए बंद कर दिया गया था और ज्वालामुखी के करीब रहने वाले हजारों लोगों को निकाल कर सुरक्षित स्थानों पर भेजा गया था।

The regional Volcanic Ash Advisory Center in Darwin, Australia, said winds would carry the ash southwest toward Java, Indonesia’s most densely populated island. Volcanic ash is a potentially deadly threat to aircraft that can cause engines to “flame out.”

‘Dark day for German football’ after World Cup elimination

Everyone was waiting for Germany to score another late World Cup-saving goal.

It never came.

Instead, the Germans have become the fourth defending champions in the last five tournaments to be eliminated in the group stage following a 2-0 loss to South Korea on Wednesday.

The four-time champions allowed a pair of injury-time goals while knowing a 1-0 victory would have been enough to advance because of the result in the other group match.

Army chief dismisses UN report on alleged rights violations in Kashmir

Indian Army Chief Gen. Bipin Rawat on Wednesday slammed the UN report on alleged human rights violations in Kashmir, dubbing it as "motivated".

The human rights record of the Indian Army, he said, was well known to the people of Kashmir and to the international community

"I don't need to speak about the human rights record of the Indian Army. It is well known to all of you, it is well known to the people of Kashmir, and to the international community. I don't think we should get too concerned about the report, some of these reports are motivated," Rawat told reporters on the sidelines of an event here.
